A couple of day of highs and lows for The Bears Football Program

A night of highs and lows for high school football
Friday night lights brought a mix of emotions for the Poly Football Program, with the varsity squad battling hard but ultimately falling short, while the Junior Varsity secured a victory, and the Freshmen faced a tough loss. Here’s a breakdown of the last week’s action:
Varsity falls in close contest, 21-14
The Varsity team fought valiantly under the Friday night lights but succumbed to a 21-14 defeat to the Vista Del Lago Ravens. The game was a tight contest, showcasing moments of strong defense and offensive flashes. In the final, nerve-wracking minutes, the offense mounted a furious drive, pushing all the way to the opponent’s ten-yard line with a chance to tie the game. Despite their determined effort and a hard-fought battle to the very end, they were stopped short, sealing their defeat. Though it was a loss, their resilience and fight until the final whistle were commendable.
Junior Varsity shines with a 7-0 victory
In a positive turn for the program, the Junior Varsity team delivered a dominant performance, shutting out the Ravens 7-0. This win highlights the potential and development within the program’s younger ranks. Junior Varsity games are crucial for preparing players for the increased intensity of varsity competition, allowing them to refine skills and learn teamwork in a less pressurized environment. The victory could also provide valuable experience for coaching staff in play-calling and player positioning.
Freshmen face a learning experience in 14-0 defeat
The Freshmen team experienced a challenging outing, falling to their opponents 14-0 to Covina High School. While the loss is undoubtedly tough for the young players, it serves as a valuable learning opportunity. Freshmen football is an essential step in developing the fundamental skills and understanding of the game necessary for future success in the program. Learning from mistakes and understanding the dedication required to improve are key takeaways from such experiences.
Looking ahead
The diverse results across the three levels of play offer both areas for improvement and reasons for optimism for the school’s football program. The Varsity team will look to learn from their close defeat and strive for stronger performances in upcoming games. The Junior Varsity victory provides a boost in morale and demonstrates the effectiveness of their development program. Finally, the Freshmen’s loss, while difficult, lays the groundwork for growth and future success as they continue their football journey.
